Hypothetically speaking...
What kind of wedding gift do you buy the Boss' child?
Do you go with one on the more expensive side, so it will show good taste, appreciation and respect (READ "brown nosing")? But then that may give the message that you are "well off" and are managing FINE at the current paycheck.
OR
Do you just buy a "normal" gift and risk appearing "average?" Or unimportant, ungrateful, tacky?
OR
Do you [strategically] go with something on the lower end, so it may [hopefully] cause the Boss to consider your financial situation...which, in turn, should produce thoughts of the necessity of a raise?
All just hypothetically speaking, of course.

Normal gift- chances are the boss won't ever even find out what you gave to his son/daughter so why spend more than usual. But if he is there when they open presents it won't be a slap in the face to him.
I say normal too. You shouldn't worry about what the boss thinks and he will never know what you gave anyway. The only thing he will notice is if you are at the reception.
Do what you would normally do.
Go normal, do you even know the bride? I never know what to do when we get those kind of invitations.
How about save money and not give them anything! :) I doubt they're going to tell their dad who gave a gift and who didn't! .......hypothetically speaking, of course.
I think the boss approved!
